Vocal Arts Ensemble of Ann Arbor: Lamentations and Exultations

The power and poetry of lamentation has captured the expressive imagination of composers throughout the centuries. In our first concert of the 2024-2025 season, VAE weaves various settings of Lamentation texts with its counterpart, Exultation, including the great Renaissance motet "How Are the Mighty Fallen" by Robert Ramsey, the Michigan premiere of Theo Morrison's "Sicilian Muses," the music of the Supremes, and much more. Performed seamlessly, Lamentations and Exultations brings out both the cries from the abyss and the shouts from the rooftops to dramatic effect.

For three decades, the Vocal Arts Ensemble of Ann Arbor has maintained a tradition of professional excellence in the performance of fine choral music. Founded in 1992 as a small chamber group devoted to a-cappella singing, the group has solidified its reputation as one of the premier chamber ensembles in the region, performing several concerts each season.
