The Magnificat is a text that looks inward--the expression of the lowly handmaiden's wonder at being chosen--and outwards: the responsibility to scatter the proud, feed the needy, and honor the generations that both follow and precede us.
To explore the theme of Generations, our December concert features English composer Cecilia McDowall's magnificent Magnificat, a fresh and beautiful setting for choir and soloists, as well as various settings of L'Dor va Dor ("from generations to generations'') as VAE musically celebrates the four R's of the season: Revelry, Ritual, Reflection, and Responsibility.
