We round out 2023 with two major works. British composer Cecilia McDowall's Magnificat, a setting of the Canticle of Mary for choir and small instrumental ensemble, is a piece that is by turns fiery, elegant, playful and meditative. The second half features the great Gloria by Vivaldi, with all its defining ebullience, crunching dissonances and lightning-fast finale.
