In 1980’s Mississippi, sweet and and lively Carnelle hopes to overcome her “bad reputation” by winning the Miss Firecracker beauty contest. She is assisted by her shy seamstress Popeye, her quirky cousins Elain and Delmount, wise Mac Sam (a former lover) and Tessy, the enthusiastic contest organizer. Lessons of life and love abound, amidst much laughter.
