Event Details

Greek pianist, Andreas Xenopoulos, presents five piano works by Mendelssohn, Liszt, and Chopin to musically portray the journey of a young hero who has lost his path and embarks upon an adventure to try to reconnect with his inner self (Psyche).

Mendelssohn's Rondo Capriccioso Op. 14 begins the journey with an inevitable fight that is the catalyst for the quest. Depicting the continuous, serious efforts brought about from the original need for change, Mendelssohn's Variation sérieuses Op.54 finds the hero starting to carve a path towards his search for the Psyche. Faith and feelings are our hero's only weapons as he struggles through Franz Liszt's fictitious Vallée d’ Obermann. Once through the valley, Chopin's Sonata Op. 35 No 2, serves as a symbol for death - a continuous reminder that every life change involves loss, fear and rough times. The final Scherzo by Chopin reminds our hero of his homeland - his roots - reminding him of who he is, reuniting him with his Psyche, and enabling him to draw power from his inner self.
