The Royal Starr Film Festival invites you to attend a free seminar with New York’s #1 Headshot Photographer Douglas Gorenstein & Michigan Casting Director Janet Pound. Then immediately thereafter join us for the Royal Starr Film Festival opening night party!
Douglas and Janet will teach the importance of the actor headshot in the casting process. Topics will include: Shoot preparation, lighting, make-up, photography styles, wardrobe choices, how to work in front of the camera, indoors vs outdoors, huge headshot mistakes actors make, defining type, nailing the right looks for you!
Actors are encouraged to bring their current headshots for critique by Douglas and Janet as time allows.
Douglas Gorenstein was voted "Favorite New York Headshot Photographer" by BackStage.com. He served as the official photographer for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon where he photographed virtually every major star on the planet. Check out the headshot he did of Jimmy Fallon for the carton of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream The Tonight Dough. Douglas was the headshot and on-set photographer for Celebrity Apprentice. The Dramatists Guild and the Actors Studio have relied on him throughout the years to “capture the moment”. He teaches headshot workshops at acting programs throughout New York and the country to make sure actors know how to get their headshots done right. A Michigan native, he has operated Douglas Gorenstein Photography out of his beautiful NYC studio for more than 20 years photographing amazing headshots for actors of all ages as well as top business executives. Janet Pound began as an actress working in commercials and industrial films. She then was a talent agent for eight years. As a casting director at Pound & Mooney Casting she helped cast the Michigan principle casting for over thirty movies, music videos, and commercials. Some credits include; Gran Torino, Red Dawn and Batman vs Superman. She worked for George Clooney, Drew Barrymore, Ryan Gosling, Clint Eastwood and Eminem. As an actress, Janet appeared in commercials, industrial films and several movies. As a writer, her plays have been performed in Detroit, Chicago, Palm Springs and New York and are included in several scene study and monologue books. Her drama short Home Again won The Trinity International Film Festivals best Artist Award which she wrote, directed, and co-produced. Elida’s Familia and Lies in the River are her full length screenplays and are currently being shopped in LA. Her most recent work is Katrine’s Last Words. It’s a comedy short she wrote and directed.

The Royal Starr Film Festival is more than just great movies. Our Film and New Media Expo (FanMe) component also hosts the following discussions, seminars, demonstrations, and Q&A with industry professionals in the fields of screenwriting, producing, acting, and special effects make-up.
The third ROYAL STARR FILM FESTIVAL will take place October 11th - 14th, 2018. The festival will be held at the Emagine Theater in downtown Royal Oak, Michigan. The festival will screen juried entries of short, documentary and feature films from Michigan, across America, and around the World. The festival will also host a film-making technology fair, panel discussions with filmmakers and artists, as well as award presentations and afterglow parties.
Royal Starr Film Festival (RSFF) will curate experience packages of unique film watching opportunities with the best of Royal Oak dining and entertainment.
The Royal Starr Arts Institute is Metro Detroit's stage and forum for the arts. Providing events such as the Royal Starr Film Festival a 4 day International Festival held in the fall that showcases film from all over the world and the Filmmaker Community Mixer a Monthly event that serves the Film community as a place to come together and meet, share, and inspire the Michigan Film Industry.
