Detroit Symphony orchestra trumpet player Bill Lucas brings his mellow jazz trumpet and flugelhorn sounds to the Kerrytown Concert Hall stage. The afternoon of music will feature a mix of straight ahead jazz originals from Bill’s about-to-be released CD “When It Rains”, as well as original arrangements of jazz standards like John Coltrane’s “Naima” and Benny Golson’s “Along Came Betty”.

A member of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra trumpet section since May 1988, William Lucas’ trumpet career first began as a jazz musician. Born and raised in the Detroit metropolitan area, Bill attended Plymouth High School and the University of Michigan, where he was enrolled in both the schools of engineering and music. Throughout the years he has performed as a freelance musician in the Detroit and Ann Arbor areas in both the classical and jazz worlds.

In addition to his duties with the DSO, Bill serves as an Assistant Professor of Music in the department of Jazz and Contemporary Improvisation at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre and Dance .

Bill’s solo Jazz CD, “When It Rains” is schedule for release in late 2019 followed by the release of “On the Fringe of Fire”, a collection of the music of George Gershwin with a twist, in the spring of 2020.
